Morning Brew Inc. was founded in 2015 at the University of Michigan by Alex Lieberman and Austin Rief, originally titled The Market Corner.

After significant growth of the business over the following 5 years, Axel Springer SE acquired a majority stake of Morning Brew Inc. in October 2020. In February 2025, Axel Springer SE increased their position to full ownership of the business.
